From an environmental standpoint, foundries are the largest recyclers in the world and are continuously implementing procedures to become even more environmentally friendly. Many foundries utilize scrap metal from a variety of sources including shredded automobiles, engine blocks, steel punchings, discarded and dismantled equipment, and other sources. From this "scrap material" foundries make new parts for numerous uses throughout the world. Grede Foundries is also a leader in recycling and beneficial reuse of foundry by-products, such as sand.
