About Grede Foundries:
Grede & the Metalcasting Industry

Photo of Grede Employees Metalcasting is the sixth largest industry in the United States, providing tens of thousands of tons of different castings to thousands of companies worldwide. As a leader in the industry, Grede Foundries' products are used in end-products reaching nearly every home, farm, and business in the world's economy.

Metalcasting dates back approximately 5,000 years and, over time, the foundry industry has transformed itself into a dynamic modern business. Grede Foundries has established itself as a leader by continually striving to improve its products and the processes used to make them. This ongoing improvement requires skilled and dedicated people working together in all areas of the Company's operations.
Castings are essential to a broad range of other technologies. Castings from Grede's plants are primarily used in the following products.
  • Automobiles
  • Construction machinery and equipment
  • Compressors and pumps
  • Farm machinery and equipment

  • Hydraulic valves
  • Internal combustion engines
  • Mechanical power transmissions
  • Trucks - highway and off-highway
From an environmental standpoint, foundries are the largest recyclers in the world and are continuously implementing procedures to become even more environmentally friendly. Many foundries utilize scrap metal from a variety of sources including shredded automobiles, engine blocks, steel punchings, discarded and dismantled equipment, and other sources. From this "scrap material" foundries make new parts for numerous uses throughout the world.

Grede Foundries is also a leader in recycling and beneficial reuse of foundry by-products, such as sand. The Company's efforts have saved more than 1,700,000 tons of materials from being landfilled since 1990. We recognize our plants annually for their efforts to reduce waste and save energy. Visit the Safety & Environment sections of our Website for more information on Grede's efforts.

Foundries range in size from small businesses with just a few employees to large companies with thousands. As one of the largest independent, privately-held, philosophy-based, jobbing foundries in the world today, Grede Foundries offers a wide spectrum of interesting career opportunities.
