To maintain its leadership position, Grede Foundries looks to recruit the most highly qualified engineers in a number of engineering disciplines. The Company's different operations provide opportunities for people to hone their skills and to grow as electrical, mechanical, industrial, and metallurgical engineers. Here are a few of the many functions engineers perform within the Company:

Foundry Engineering requires interaction with customers and suppliers to determine pattern and casting design and development with the best efficiency and quality at the lowest cost.

Methods Engineering involves planning, developing, and implementing approved methods projects including process changes, plant and workstation revisions, and product improvements using formal methods engineering analysis techniques.


Plant Engineering involves design, development, and installation of new plant facilities, maintenance of existing facilities, and advanced planning of new facilities.

Process Engineering helps the Company ensure only quality castings are produced by documenting and developing the most effective manufacturing processes.

Standards Engineering involves conducting time and motion studies as well as planning and verifying work methods to maximize worker efficiency.

Manufacturing/Production Management

If you're looking for an action-oriented career with considerable responsibility, a position in production or manufacturing management at one of our plant locations will be of interest to you. These are excellent opportunities for a candidate with personal leadership and problem solving abilities, as well as a degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or Industrial Management.

After orientation and an introduction to the foundry and its production operations, you could be assigned as a supervisor in one of the production areas such as coremaking, molding, pouring, or casting. As you continue to learn, there are opportunities for advancement to other positions including General Supervisor and Superintendent.

Quality Assurance

Quality Assurance at Grede is a vital part of our total commitment to customer service. Grede Foundries is recognized for its quality products, and as a result, the Quality Assurance function is staffed by highly motivated employees.

Metallurgists are involved in setting materials standards, supervising test labs, and interacting with customers and suppliers on metallurgical requirements.

Quality Engineers are required to maintain the quality system, ensuring that established manufacturing processes are being followed and that components and finished castings comply with quality standards. It also involves preparing reports, analysis of the quality assurance process, and involvement in problem solving.

Business Information Technology

Business Information Technology serves all areas of the business, both locally and at off-site facilities. Programmers and Systems Analysts work together with business users to assess requirements, then develop, and implement, solutions on enterprise, midrange, pc, and web platforms. Our application portfolio includes SAP (ECC 6.0, NetWeaver 2007, xMII, & BW/BI), PeopleSoft, and Maximo. This includes training and help desk support for these solutions and selecting and supporting hardware, including voice and data communications networks, and ensuring the integrity of our data through the use of security tools and processes.

Supplier Management & Development

If procurement and supplier quality interest you, you'll find that Grede has a very strong relationship with its suppliers. As an extension of Company production, suppliers are important to the Company's success.

As a member of the procurement group, you could be involved in a variety of activities, including buying negotiations, and determining qualified sources of supply. In addition, excellent interpersonal relationship skills will help you to effectively manage supplier relations with the objective to build alliances and obtain strategic advantage based on principles of value, loyalty, and partnership with suppliers. You could also be involved in investigating outsource opportunities and third party providers to manage and coordinate Grede's non-core business activities.

The supplier quality group assures that the purchase of production materials is from approved suppliers and that vendor performance is focused on material performance, delivery, corrective action process, and continuous improvement (per QS 9000).
